Support & FAQs
General & Account
FlickMate is your ultimate companion for film and television. It allows you to track, rate, and discuss movies and TV shows. You can organize your watchlist, keep a history of what you’ve seen, and share recommendations with friends through private Circles.
Yes, the app is free to use for tracking, rating, and social features.
You can browse the "Discover" tab and the public feed as a guest without signing in. However, you must sign in to access key features like your Profile, Watchlist, Ratings, and Circles.
You can edit your display name and bio by navigating to the Profile tab and tapping the edit option (often accessible via your user icon or an edit sheet depending on your specific view).
Go to the Profile tab and scroll to the bottom of the screen. Tap the "Sign Out" button to log out of your current session.
Social Features: Circles vs. Following
- Circles (Private Groups): These are designed for close friends or family. It is a collaborative group where you can see Circle Averages (the average rating for a movie specifically from that group) and share watchlists privately.
- Following (Curated Feed): This acts like a standard social media subscription. You follow specific users or groups to see their latest updates in your personal Following Feed.
You can invite friends by generating a unique invite link or a QR code from within the "Manage Circles" section. When your friend opens the link on their device, it will launch FlickMate and prompt them to join your group.
Currently, management focuses on creating groups and inviting people.
- Go to your Profile tab.
- Tap "Manage Circles".
- Select "Create New Circle" to start a group (you must give it a name).
- Once created, you can view the member count in your Profile, but the app relies on users voluntarily joining via the invite links you share.
When you view a movie or TV show, the app calculates the average rating specifically from members of your Circles. This helps you see what your close friends think of a title, separate from the general public rating.
Finding & Organizing Content
You can use the Search icon located in the top navigation bar on the Home tab or within the Discover tab to find specific titles.
The Discover tab helps you find new content to watch. It features lists for Trending, Popular, Top Rated, and Upcoming movies and TV shows.
Yes. On the Home Feed, you can toggle between different view modes, such as Poster Grid, List View, or Card View, depending on how much detail you want to see at a glance.
Yes. Both the Feed and Discover sections offer filters that allow you to toggle between Movies and TV Shows so you can focus on the type of content you are interested in.
FlickMate lets you categorize titles precisely:
- Queued: Stuff you want to watch.
- Watched: Things you have finished.
- Currently Watching: Useful for tracking TV seasons.
- Plan to Rewatch: Favorites you want to see again.
- Dropped: Content you stopped watching.
- Do Not Care: Titles you want to hide or ignore.
App Features & Settings
When viewing a title, tap the "Rate Title" button. This opens a slider where you can give a rating from 0.5 to 10. You can also leave a comment with your review.
No. FlickMate is a tracker, not a streaming service. However, it provides Streaming Info so you can see where to watch titles.
If the streaming providers shown don't match your location, go to the Profile tab and look for the Region setting. You can select your country (e.g., United Kingdom, USA) to ensure the "Where to Watch" info is accurate.
Yes. On any movie or show detail page, you can tap the Share icon to send a link to the title via text, email, or other social media apps.
The app uses Haptic Feedback (vibrations) to confirm actions like rating a movie, switching tabs, or refreshing your feed, making the experience feel more responsive.
Troubleshooting & Data
The app generally requires an Internet connection to sync data. However, if you lose connection, you can still view feeds you loaded previously. If you rate a movie while offline, the app will update your screen immediately, and the data will sync to the server once you reconnect.
All content metadata—such as posters, plot synopses, and cast information—is provided by TMDB (The Movie Database).
If a friend's new rating hasn't appeared in your feed yet, try pulling down on the screen to refresh the data.
